The DSP496 Fast Poll Modem is completely compatible with the DSP9612 modems.
 
The DSP496 Fast Poll modem will work on 2 and 4 wire lease lines and are designed for harsh environmental conditions (-40º to +85C) with ultra fast polling times. These multi-drop modems run on 12 - 24 - 48 - 125 VDC power and 115 - 220 -230 VAC at 60 Hz or 50Hz power - they also come in rack mount versions. Auto RTS is a new feature allowing multidrop for devices with 3 wire data interfaces and no control signals (no RTS signal) required.

DSP496 Fast Poll Leased line modems are designed for harsh environmental conditions (-40º to +85C) with ultra fast polling times.

The Fast Poll DSP496 Fast Poll modem is a triple mode, full-featured 9600 QAM Fast Poll, 1200 bps FSK V.23 and Bell 202T leased line or private wire modem with the fastest training time in the Industry, 23msec RTS/CTS delay at 9600 bps and 8 ms in Bell 202T Mode. Ideal for utility and industrial automation multi-dropping applications, including SCADA systems, traffic automation and oil or gas automation projects, where an unlimited number of drops are desirable at ranges up to 16 miles (26 Km).

The DSP496 is a modem designed for 4-wire, full-duplex or 2-wire, half-duplex operation over a voice-band leased line or private copper wire. The modem design utilizes the latest digital-signal processing (DSP) technology to achieve high performance with an adaptive equalizer for the best operation on the poor unconditioned lines.

In Fast Poll Mode (9600/4800 bps), the DSP496 employs proprietary modulation and encoding scheme to achieve fast modem training time. In V.23 or Bell 202T Mode, the modem is also backward compatible with V.23 (0 – 1200) or Bell 202T (0 – 1800 bps) modems. Ideal for systems where fast response, short training time and low throughput delay is required, the DSP496 is optimized for fast receiver equalizer training and extremely low throughput delay. The triple mode capability allows the DSP496 to communicate with existing V.23 or Bell 202T remote modems at up to 1800 bps, which can then be upgraded at a later date to the DSP496 standalone modems and switched to 9600 bps.
